Hi Lawrence, if a patient is able to move their wrist on their own, then it would be beneficial to them to attempt the movement on their own until they can no longer do that, at which point assisted movement can help. When a patient is not able to perform independent movement at all yet, then assisted movement can still help the brain rewire and regain movement. As an example, we had a patient with a paralyzed hand regain movement through assisted mirror-like therapy (it was similar to mirror therapy, but a little different). You can find more details here: https://www.flintrehab.com/2016/how-to-regain-movement-in-a-paralyzed-hand-with-musicglove/

I hope you find it useful!
