Hi Tamara it’s good to hear from you again!! I like that you pointed out that meditation also shrinks the grey matter in the amygdala. You’re right! That’s how neuroplasticity works: the creation of new connections and the deletion of old ones. So it’s like learning mindfulness and unlearning stress at the same time. Keep up with the meditation and share an update in a few weeks if you can! I’d love to hear about your results 🙂

And I really need that, because my right amygdala (in the affected part of my brain) nearly comes out of my nose screaming. I resisted meditation for a long while, because it was too boring, but I’m standing with my back against the wall. After 9 years of trying to get to the “finish line” of recovery and not getting there, I have to start doing something completely different. The spasms in my affected left leg are so painful the entire day, I’m desperate for relieve. So I’ve started meditating last week 4 times a day for 11 minutes. Breathing in slowly through my nose on the count of 4, holding my breath for 4 seconds, exhaling through my nose for 6 seconds, hold for 2 seconds and start again. Harvard did a study in healthy people who had changes in their brain in 8 weeks. They meditated for 27 minutes a day so I’m already at 44 minutes a day. I also try to be more mindful and stop thinking in terms like “when I have recovered then I will…” because this causes stress too.
